Suvarnabhumi Airport
If your trip is from outside Thailand, then you will most likely arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport east of Bangkok. Obviously, this contemporary airport, which opened in 2006, has a modern look and feel.
To emphasize how much air traffic is carried each year, the number of travellers arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport is over sixty million annually. This airport is therefore one of the larger airports in Asia. Overall, Suvarnabhumi Airport is easily accessible by public transport and by taxi. Similarly, the special ARL, short for Airport Rail Link, takes travellers from the airport to Bangkok. Basically, the Thai government recommends taking Taxi-meter if you need transportation instead of ordinary taxis without a meter. To point out, they are recognizable by the sign Taxi-meter. However, realize that sometimes an extra toll has to be paid if you travel over highways. Regardless, the costs of hiring a taxi in Thailand are relatively low.
Phuket Airport
Phuket Airport is beautifully located near the Andaman Sea and exists since the seventies. Although, the airport was extensively renovated in 2016. As a result, this drastically increased the capacity. And because of that the number of passengers at Phuket Airport is above eighteen million nowadays. While previously this was around two to three million per year. Besides, the number of terminals has been increased to three.
Phuket is easy to achieve with domestic air flights, unfortunately there are no trains on Phuket Island. But there is a good bus service available. These Airport Busses are easy recognizable by their orange colour. The direction is easy, they all only drive just to Phuket City. These bus lines are popular not only with holidaymakers however with the local population too. If you rather choose for a little more comfort then, in addition to the Taxi-meter, there are – as an alternative – also slightly more expensive limousines for rent. Besides, the limousine drivers generally speak better English. Finally, you can choose an alternative option that is suitable for small groups by taking a minivan.
Don Muang Airport
Before 2006, Don Mueang Airport in the north of Bangkok was Thailand’s main airport. Because Thailand turned out to be an attractive travel destination for many people, the number of travellers each year grew substantially.
And for this reason this airport is not suitable for its purpose due to the small size. Since the new Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport is mainly used for domestic flights. If you have an international flight and arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport then you have to be transferred to Don Mueang, if you need to travel from there.
Then it is best to take the Airport Shuttle Bus that drives between the two airports.
But, if you want to go to your hotel instantly; then take the regular train. As there is no connection with the BMTS light rail network. Of course, just as at other airports, you indeed take a taxi where the ‘official’ Taxi-meter is recommended or the slightly more expensive limousine taxis. Finally, if you run out of transportation options, there is the regular city bus BMTA.
Chiang Mai Airport
So, the fascinating city Chiang Mai is located in the far north of Thailand. Besides, the local airport Chiang Mai is an international airport. But there are usually no planes arriving from Europe or America. Because most of these tourists are likely to travel by Bangkok. Subsequently, from here you fly to Chiang Mai in just sixty minutes with an internal flight. However, it is an interesting tourist spot. And as a result, the airport is fourth in ranking regarding travellers. Indeed, the airport is located close to the city of Chiang Mai. Because the distance is only 2,5 miles. Nevertheless, two taxi companies provide rides from Chiang Mai Airport. One is the well-known Taxi-meter, but you also travel to your destination in the entire city at a fixed rate of one hundred and fifty Baht with Chiang Mai Airport Taxi.
Krabi Airport
In the southwest of Thailand, off the coast of the Andaman Sea, lies the province of Krabi. This attractive travel destination has many thousands of beautiful islands where you can go to. A great way to enjoy your vacation. If you travel by aeroplane then you arrive at Krabi international airport. Krabi International Airport is located near the small coastal town of Krabi. Keep in mind that no trains are leaving from this airport.
But as a practical and suitable alternative there is the option to take an Airport Shuttle Bus. Another bus service is the minivan, this is a bit cheaper and more useful if you travel with a small group.
If you want more privacy and comfort, then there is the Krabi Airport Taxi service. Other taxis are basically not allowed. If you like to use this taxi service, then purchase a coupon in advance at the airport. Besides, the taxi will take you to your destination at a fixed rate. At the moment, there are two terminals, and a third terminal will be opened in 2021.
